50 States of Shakespeare

A state-by-state list, obviously not inclusive, but gives you a starting point for looking for live performances in your area.

Shakespeare is part of American culture. High school students begin studying and acting the plays in 9th grade, usually beginning with Romeo and Juliet. Some students take to Shakespeare like a duck to water, and other students positively can’t stand the plays, mainly because of the perceived Early Modern English language barrier.

Here’s a good lesson I adapted from one of my training teachers in England when I was a student teacher. It invites students to warm up to the language with Early Modern English insults and puns.
